New Zealand calendar – 2012/New Zealand Public Holidays 2012


New Year’s Day – it is the first day of the year celebrated to welcome the fresh year. Special midnight ceremonies are held and people pray for the peaceful upcoming year. It will be celebrated on Sunday 1 January.


Waitangi Day – a document known as Treaty of Waitangi was signed on this day and it is marked as an important day in the history of New Zealand. The year this document was signed was 1940 and in according to calendar 2012 it will be celebrated on Monday 6 February.


Good Friday – it is a religious holiday celebrated in the remembrance of crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. It is observed by Christian communities. It will be celebrated on Friday 6 April.


Easter Monday – it is the day celebrated after Easter Sunday. This day is celebrated as a religious event. The day is also called the Resurrection Day. This will be observed on Monday 9 April.


Anzac Day – it is the national day celebrated in the remembrance of the people who fought in world war I. people from Austria and New Zealand Gallipoli in the Ottoman on this day. The day is going to be celebrated on Wednesday 25 April.


Queen’s Birthday – on this day the great queen of New Zealand was born. She has played a lot of role in the progress of New Zealand. Due to her hard work the country is known as the most peaceful nation in the world. It is going to be celebrated on Monday 4 June.


Labour Day – it is a public holiday that is celebrated throughout the world. The reason of the celebration is the acceptance of sacrifices of labors on this day. They have produced many social and economic sacrifices. The day is observed on the 4th Monday of October. According to New Zealand calendar – 2012 it will be celebrated on Monday 22 October.


Christmas Day – this day is a religious event. It is believed that Jesus Christ was born on this day. It is an event of great bliss. People fully enjoy it and special ceremonies are held in churches. The whole scenario of the country changes and people fully enjoy for two weeks. It will be celebrated on Tuesday 25 December.


Boxing Day – the day next to the Christmas is known as Boxing Day. On this day mostly sports events are held. Different people enjoy it in different ways. It is also a religious event affiliated to Christian community. It will be observed on Wednesday 26 December.
