Czech Republic calendar – 2012/ Czech Republic Public Holidays 2012

New Year celebrations – these celebrations are held only because of the fresh and brand new year. On this day the new calendar year starts and people enjoy this day and pray for the successful year as well. These celebrations are held on January 1st. this year on the Czech Republic calendar they are going to be held on Sunday 1st January 2012.

Hromnice – it is a traditional event related to many proverbs and quotes. This day forms an important part of the customs of Czech Republic. On this day people observe holiday and it is celebrated in the mid of winter. The date of event is going to be Thursday 2 February 2012.

St. Joseph’s Day – joseph is a very common name in Czech Republic. This is only because of this historical event that will be observed on Monday 19 march 2012.

The Burning of the Witches – it is an old custom and not a public holiday. It is a general tradition which is still alive in some villages. The people of the country say farewell to the winters in traditional manner and term it as The Burning of the Witches. This day is marked on the calendar on Monday 30 April 2012.

The Day of Love – this is the day celebrated and devoted to love. The day is to remember the great poet of the country. He wrote much about love and was famous throughout the region. His name was Hynek Mácha. This day will be celebrating on Tuesday 1 may 2012.

Day of Slavic Missionaries Cyril and Methodius

John Huss Commemoration – this is the day celebrated to remember three historic names of the country. These names did a lot for the progress and prosperity of the country.  The day is celebrated on Thursday and Friday, 5th and 6th July respectively. It is a public holiday.

Nicholas Tradition – this is the special and an exciting day for the children. This is to remind them that Christmas is not far away. Christmas is the occasion related to children and the eagerly wait for it. This day is going to be observed on Wednesday 5 December 2012.

Christmas – this is a religious event that marks the end of the year people eagerly wait for this particular day and when it approaches they fully enjoy. This day is full of bliss because it forms the basis of the religious fundamentals. According to the 2012 calendar it is going to be celebrated on Tuesday 25 December 2012.

Beside these events there are many other important religious events like Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, soul’s day, assumption day and victory day. These days are celebrated in the whole Christian world as well as in Czech Republic.
