Denmark calendar – 2012/Denmark Public Holidays 2012

New Year’s day – this is day to celebrate the arrival of New Year. In local language it is termed as Nytårsdag. The day is marked as Sunday 1st January 2012.

General Prayer Day – it is the fourth Friday after the Easter. People pray on this day and its local name is Store Bededag. It is going to be celebrated on Friday 4th may 2012.

Easter – it is an important religious event celebrated to remember Jesus Christ. It comprises of two days Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. People rejoice on this day. According to Danish calendar 2012 it will be celebrated on Sunday 8th April and Monday 9th April 2012.

Whit Sunday – it is celebrated seven weeks after the Easter and it continues for two days. Its Danish name is Pinsedag and these days are known as days of Whitsun. The day is followed by the Whit-Monday they are going to be celebrated on Sunday 20th may and Monday 21st may 2012.

Crown Princess Mary’s birthday – this is not much celebrated but on the calendar it is still marked as an event. On this day the queen took the oath and the Danish name of the event is Prinsesse Marys fødselsdag. It is going to be observed on February 5 2012.

Occupation of Denmark – this is the day when Denmark created a history. On this day Germany invaded Denmark. It was the time of World War II. People of the Denmark celebrate it with full zeal and zest to show that they got freedom on this day. They term it as Danmarks besættelse. It is celebrated on Monday 9th April 2012.

Birthday of Queen Margrethe II – it is celebrated in the memory of the birth of the queen. On this day is awarded with a special protocol whenever she appears from her balcony. People call this day Dronningens fødselsdag. It is celebrated on Monday 16 April 2012.

Halloween – this is the night when dark forces set loose to the saints. It is the night of a great fun and people enjoy a lot on this night by celebrating it in a unique manner. In Denmark it is known as Allehelgensaften. It will be celebrated on Wednesday 31 October 2012.

Christmas Eve – this is the evening full of joy and fun. People of all ages enjoy equally on this eve. It is a trend to start the celebrations with a Christmas tree. People term this event as Juleaften. As it is the eve of Christmas so it is observed on 24th December and the day according to the 2012 calendar will be Monday.

Christmas – it is the event full of fun. The most traditional custom of Christian culture is going to be celebrated on Tuesday 25th December 2012.
