Harbour Island – Bahamas is an island located off the northeast of Eleuthra Island. It has only one town called the Dunmore Town which is named after the governor of Bahamas. The island is well-known for its pink sand beaches, which are found along the east side. It is a popular destination for Americans due to its flower-lined streets and New England-styled buildings. How to Get There
There is no direct way to get to Harbour Island,Bhamas. From the United States, you need to fly to Nassau, and then from Miami or Fort Lauderdale, take a connecting flight to the airport on Eleuthera. From there, take a taxi to the dock and take a water taxi to the island. You can take a taxi at the airport and have a 10-minute ride to the dock. The water taxi also takes 10 minutes to get to Harbour Island. The best time to visit the island is between December and April when all major holidays are celebrated. It is also the time of year when the weather is at its best. However, lodging rates are more expensive during this time. Do not travel to the island during fall because it is the season of hurricanes, and shops and hotels close for the entire season.
What to Do in Harbour Island
Local fare in Harbour Island – Bahamas is casual in general. It focuses mainly on conch and other freshly caught seafood. There is a restaurant that even features fresh conch salad. If you want to have fine dining in hotels, the Coral Sands offer excellent. However, they can be steep. On the other hand, you can try conch burgers in small shops such as the Seaview Takeaway or Arthur’s Bakery. In addition, there are a number of activities you can perform in the island.
For instance, you can go biking, snorkelling, diving, and bonefishing. You can also stroll down the town and enjoy the island attractions. Since the island is small, you can easily explore it with a golf cart that can be rented from shops. Of the many things you should not miss, the sunset ranks number one. You can gather at the Government dock and watch the spectacular view with a cocktail.
In order to make your vacation smooth, bring with you an official ID and birth certificate if you are American. American dollars are used in the island, and most stores do not accept AMEX and Discover cards. A departure fee also applies to all visitors, and must be paid per person.
