Malaysia is a country with diverse religions which define their holidays. Let us Have a look on the Malaysian Holidays 2012;

New Year’s Day: national holiday to mark the beginning of a new year. 2nd January 2012.

Chinese Lunar New Year’s Day: it is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays celebrated worldwide to mark the first day of the Chinese calendar. Monday 23rd January and Tuesday 24th January 2012.

Hari Wilayah Persekutuan The federal territory day was first introduced on 1st February 1974 three days after signing the federal territory agreement. It marks the anniversary of formation of kaula lampur federal territory. Wednesday 1st February 2012.

Mawlid: The Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday observed by Sunni Muslims on the 12th day of Islamic month of Rabi’ al-awwal. Muhammad was the last Islamic prophet. Sunday 5th February 2012.

Thaipusum(Tamil) is a Hindu festival celebrated by the Tamil community of the full moon. Celebrated mostly in countries where the Tamil community are a majority but in Malaysia they celebrate it even though they are not a majority. Tuesday 7th February 2012

Labor Day: It stems from the ancient customs associated with  the spring celebrations. It is celebrated to appreciate the efforts the people of Malaysia have put in the labor sector of the economy. Tuesday 1st may 2012.

Wesak Day: it is the biggest religious celebrations in Asia by the Buddhist. It is celebrated by colorfully decorated templates, beautiful women whit robbed Buddhist fragrant flowers and many others. Saturday 5th may 2012.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s Birthday (He who is made Lord.) Yang di-Pertuan Agong is the maleysian head of state. The holiday was introduced in 1957 when Malaysia gained independence. Saturday 2nd June 2012.

Hari Raya: it is a Muslim festival celebrated to mark the end of their fasting period of Ramadan that runs for one month, a very important festival on the Muslim calendar. Everybody will put on new clothes and the young will ask for forgiveness from the elders. Sunday 19th August and Monday 20th august 2012.

Hari merdeka: also the independence day of Malaysia is a celebration to mark the independence of the federal of Malaysia from the British colonial rule in 1957. Friday 31st august 2012.

Malaysia Day: it is a national holiday celebrated on commemoration of the formation of the Malaysian federation in 1963. It marked the joining of Malaya,Singapor, Sarawak and north borneo. Sunday 16th September 2012.

Aidil Adha. Hari raya haji commonly known as the pilgrimage festival is celebrated by Muslims to mark the end of the Muslim pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca. It is also known as the festival of sacrifice because prophet Ibrahim was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. Friday 26th October 2012.

Deepvali/Diwali:  it is the commonly known festival if lights. It marks the beginning of Hindus New year according to lunar calendar. It signifies the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Monday 13 November 2012.

Muharram/New Year: it is the first of the four most sacred months on the Islamic calendar. During these months, fighting is prohibited especially on this first month. Thursday 15th November 2012.

Christmas: celebrated by Christians to mark the birth of Jesus. It is one of the biggest Christian celebrations.  25th December 2012.
