The Pushkar Fair is a yearly five-day camel and livestock fair held in the town of Pushkar in the state of Rajahsthan, India. The Pushkar Fair 2012 will be one of the world’s largest camel fairs. Buying and selling of livestock is also an important feature and tourist attraction of the event. There will be several of competitions in the Pushkar Fair 2012 in able to gather more and more tourists like it always has. Competitions like the “longest mustache, “bridal competition” and an exhibition cricket match between the local Pushkar club and a team of random foreign tourists would surely reel in a lot of tourists and visitors.
What to expect
The Pushkar Fair is India’s greatest tribal gathering which features performances of music and dances. Pushkar Fair 2012 will no doubt be crowded with thousands of visitors and locals alike. Businessmen such as cattle traders, shopkeepers, merchants, entertainers and artisans would surely be among them. This fair is distinct because of the splendor of sights beheld from the competitions and sceneries. Not to mention the smell of all that livestock, but still conducive and tolerable enough to enjoy the festivities. The narrow streets would be filled with a lot of business transactions and busy trade and barter. Merrymaking and rejoicing would also be a common sight.

The Camel Race would be the first event in the fair. The camels would be decorated and are raced in competition against each other to reach the finishing line before the music stops. The winning camel will be based upon its speed, its equipment and ornaments, and its capacity to interpret and follow its masters’ commands. Aside from Camel Races there will also be Camel Decoration as well as Camel and Horse Dance contests.
The Longest mustache competition would also attract a lot of tourists across the globe. Because you have to admit: Having such splendid mustache is very manly. Taking it to the next level would be the Turban Tying and Tilak Competitions ̶ to complete that epic Hindi look.
Pilgrimage and Fun Activities
Pushkar is the home to India’s only temple dedicated to Brahma, one of the Trimurti. Pilgrims also come to the festival to bathe in the holy waters of Pushkar’s lake to purify their sins.
There will also be booths for body tattoos and piercings. For the kids and the adventurous, there would also be camel rides and local delicacies to satiate the need for that ever present attraction in every occasion ̶ food! There is more to enjoy on the coming Pushkar Fair 2012!
