The Holy Blessings of the Holy Month of Ramadan 2012

The Holy Month of Awal Ramadan is a special occasion for all the Muslims of the world. It is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and lasts for 29 or 30 days. The Muslims fast during the days of the entire month. It a month of blessings and creates humbleness among the Muslims. It is a time that purifies the soul and as a result, the attention is refocused to Almighty Allah and life according to the rules of Islam. It’s not all about fasting in the month of Ramadan, but practicing self sacrifice and being close to the God is the main objective.

The Muslims find it as a chance of re evaluating their lives according to the teachings of Islam. The Muslims leave the bad habits, end the enmities and start a life under the light of Islamic teachings. In Arabic language, the word “Saem” stands for the word “Fasting”. It means to refrain. The Muslims refrain from certain situations, they refrain from back biting, from lying, they refrain themselves from watching unethical things, their hands refrain from touching something or taking something that does not belong to them, they refrain their ears to listen to private talks and obscene words, they refrain their feet from taking them to places where sin is committed. Thus it’s not just a matter of preventing the stomach from food and drink, its preventing every part of the body from unlawful, obscene and sinister natured objects.

The month of Ramadan usually starts after a day or two of the full astronomical moon.


The Muslims prevent themselves from every immoral activity. They indulge themselves in worshipping, reading the Holy Quran and praying to the Almighty Allah. The month is started with a wide range of shopping of edible goods from large superstores. Fruits are high on demand. The families wake up an hour or so before the commencement of Fajar prayers and eat meals, popularly known as Sehr. They then pray the prayers, read the Holy Quran and indulge in their working or studying routines. In the evening, the family members gather around the table and end the fast with the prayers of Maghrib. They pray for the peacefulness and happiness of the family. Food is served in mosques for the homeless and poor people. Juices are consumed in large quantity, while Date’s demand reaches heights. It’s the fruit that Muslims eat and end their fast, illustrating the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

During the fast, certain activities are prohibited. Like eating or drinking, intimate relations between husband and wife. Temptations to all the worldly desires are resisted. Special prayers such as Taraweeh are an important part of Ramadan. They are held after the Isha prayers. The Holy Quran is recited from the beginning and ended by the last fasting day in the prayers of Taraweeh.

The Awal Ramadan 2012 will take place in the month of July. The exact date depends on the moon; however Friday, 20th July 2012 is expected to be the blessed day, though the exact date depends upon the sighting of the moon.


The Holy Month of Ramadan is quite an important month for the Muslims around the world. They believe that they could be pardoned for their sins and unethical behavior. They believe that it’s the only way to get closer to the Creator of the universe. Charity is increased by a huge margin. As during the month of Ramadan the good deeds have a 70 times more reward, people are inclined towards good deeds. Most people give their Zakat in the holy month of Ramadan as well. People give foods and shelter to the poor. Ramadan reminds a man of his humbleness, his relation with Allah, and his rights and responsibilities that include serving the humanity. During Ramadan,Fasting for days is also recommended by science for good health. Hence, Ramadan festival makes them believe that fasting cleans the Muslims spiritually; it also keeps them in better shape.
